The Carpathian Mountains are perfect for hiking, and the Transfagarasan Highway offers one of the most scenic drives in Europe. I was especially captivated by the painted monasteries in Bucovina and the serene beauty of the Danube Delta.
Romanian cuisine is another highlight—think of hearty dishes like sarmale (cabbage rolls) and ciorbă (sour soup). If you’re visiting in winter, the Christmas markets are magical, especially in Sibiu.
